·      Originated  in  the  17th Century  by  a  group  of poets and  playwrights  who  were  influenced  by  Ben  Jonson.


·      They  were  known  for  their  classical  allusions  and  wit.

2.   Royalist Poets:

·      Popularly  known  as  Cavalier  Poets, this  group  of  poets    came to  light  during  17th Century  in  the  reign  of  King  Charles 1.


·      As they  were  loyal  to  the  King  received  the name  ‘Royalist Poets’.


·     Their  works used  to  celebrate  Country love,  honour  & pleasure  of  life.
